Past simple: to be

Uso: Mismos casos que el presente simple pero con connotación de pasado.

Indicadores: yesterday, 10 min ago, in 1999, the other day, last Friday.

I/He/She/It
I was born in 1983.
He wasn´t happy in the party.
Was he at home?.

You/We/They
You were crazy.
You weren´t intelligent.
Were you at home?.

Past simple

Uso: Acciones completas en el pasado. No es importante el período de tiempo de estas acciones como en español.

Indicadores: yesterday, 10 min ago, in 1999, the other day, last Friday.

You started the work last year [verbo regular]
He visited Japan [-ch -sh -s -x añadir -ed]
He studied in USA [-y cambiar por -ied]
He travelled a lot [doblar consonante cuando sea c-v-c]
He had lunch [have por had]
You didn´t study English.
Did you drank the coffee? – Yes, I did
Did you like our friends? – No, I didn´t
Where did you live?

Past continuous

Uso:

  • Enfatizar el desarrollo de la acción que tiene lugar en el pasado. – I was working two year in a big company.
  • Multiples acciones que tienen lugar a la vez. – I was working while she was enjoying for her holidays
  • Una acción que estaba sucediendo cuando fue interrumpida por otra. I was walking to work when I fell.

Indicadores: while, as long as.

I was waiting for a train. [caso general se añade -ing]
I wasn’t running at the moment.[doblar consonante cuando sea c-v-c]
Was I leaving? [-e cambiar por -ing]

He/She/It
He was working now.
He wasn´t doing anything.
Was he working?.

You/We/They
You’re watching a new film.
You weren’t doing anything.
Were you working?.
